Tips for making healthier choices when dining out:
- Skip the bread basket. Why? The refined carbs and saturated fat can cause blood sugar levels to spike.
- Start your meal with a glass of water and limit alcohol to one or two drinks.
- Ask lots of questions about the menu items and how they’re prepared so you can make the healthiest choice.
- Always request dressings and sauces on the side. Opt for sauces made with healthy fats, like olive oil, whenever possible. Plan to leave most of the dressing on your plate.
- Try to order appetizers that are on the healthy side and feature vegetables or fruit.
