Are you always forgetting everything? There are steps we can take to keep our brains as healthy as possible. Eating a good diet is one of them. What you might not realize is that some spices are also your allies.

The food expert and founder of Seasoned Pioneers, quoted by the Daily Express newspaper, revealed four spices that help improve brain health. According to Matt Webster, ginger, for example, not only improves digestive health but also contributes to good brain function.

"Ginger contains hundreds of phytochemicals, which protect against oxidative stress," he says. In turn, "oxidative stress can accelerate the aging process and is thought to be a major risk factor for Alzheimer's disease."

Turmeric is another powerful spice. "Its main compound, curcumin, contains neuroprotective properties that help protect the brain's sharpness," he says, adding that "it helps improve memory and cognition, as well as reduce brain fog and improve cognition." He also recalls that "curcumin has been found to increase levels of the growth hormone BDNF [brain-derived neurotrophic factor], which decreases in people with Alzheimer's."

Referring to cinnamon, the expert says that it is full of antioxidants that prevent the accumulation of proteins in the brain associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. "Not only does it stimulate the process of learning and forming new memories, helping neurons to form and make new connections, but it is also rich in antioxidants that protect the brain from the negative effects of stress," he explains.

Matt Webster also recommends the consumption of black pepper, which contains piperine, a source of antioxidants that "prevent any damage to healthy brain cells". In addition, "black pepper also improves cognitive function and memory, by stimulating the brain's chemical pathways," he concludes.
