Couples with both unemployed increase 5.6% in March to 5,032
The number of couples with both elements unemployed increased by 5.6% in March year-on-year, but fell by 0.7% compared to the previous month, to 5,032, according to the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

Couples in this situation of double unemployment are entitled to a 10% increase in the value of the unemployment benefit, when they have dependents.
"At the end of March 2024, 312,181 unemployed people were registered with the employment services on the mainland, of whom 39.9% were married or lived in a de facto union, totaling 124,661", also indicates the IEFP.
Registered unemployment on the mainland increased by 7.2% compared to the same period and decreased by 3.2% compared to the previous month.
Regarding the total number of unemployed married or in a de facto union, there was an increase of 4.5% (5,369 unemployed) compared to March 2023 and a decrease of 1.9% (-2,359) compared to February.
