A day after being included in the list of 26 players called up by Roberto Martínez to represent Portugal at Euro'2024, Rúben Neves admitted that he had spoken to the national coach before making the decision to sign for Al Hilal almost a year ago. In an interview with CNN Portugal, this Wednesday, the 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder shared his concern about not being left out of the national team's horizon if he moved to Saudi Arabia.

"When the first conversations started, and things became very serious, I was careful to talk to the coach and some of the staff to ask for an opinion. Because without a doubt, the national team is a dream for me and an honour to be able to participate", began by saying Rúben Neves, continuing.

"I have been called up for a few years now and I feel very good. The national team was one of the aspects that scared me a little bit, without a doubt. But the conversations were very clear. 'Don't worry, it depends on you, your level and the way you present yourself. That's what we're going to look at, not the championship'", concluded the Portuguese international who was crowned Saudi champion in the service of Al Hilal and who can still win the Saudi King's Cup.
