Schmidt returns to destroy Benfica fans: "I hope they stay home"

In the press conference that followed Benfica's victory at Farense's home ground, coach Roger Schmidt made harsh criticisms of the fans who protested in Faro.

"I'm happy with the players, but I'm not with the fans' performance. I must say it. In my opinion, it's too much. I can understand that not everyone is happy. Sometimes we lose games or miss goals, but I see our team giving everything for Benfica. Being attacked by some people and being offended is not something they deserve. This type of reaction is not acceptable. It's too much," stressed the German coach of Benfica.

"This type of reaction is, by far, excessive. These people are not Benfica fans to me. If you behave like this, after winning... When we won against Marseille, at home, they showed the same and we saw the difference between our stadium and Marseille's. It's not good for Benfica," he continued.

"I can't change that. But what I'm saying is that we need our fans, the positive fans, those who love Benfica, support the team. We don't need these people, I hope they stay home," he concluded.
