'Bomb' in England. Drastic changes to fixtures approved
The English FA and the Premier League have agreed to a number of changes that will come into effect next season.

Major changes are coming to the English football calendar for the 2024/25 season. The Football Association (FA) and the Premier League agreed a raft of alterations to the fixture list on Thursday.
One of the most significant changes will be to the FA Cup. Replays, which currently take place up to and including the fourth round, will be scrapped. Instead, all ties will be settled on the day. In addition, FA Cup matches will be played exclusively at weekends, with no Premier League fixtures taking place on the same day.
The decision, according to the governing bodies, has been made due to "calendar pressures stemming from UEFA club competition expansion". This is a reference to the fact that the Champions League will feature more clubs from next season.
"The Emirates FA Cup Final will now take place on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, on an exclusive Saturday with no Premier League fixtures taking place that weekend. In addition, there will be no Premier League matches on the Friday night before the Final, allowing for a clear focus on the showpiece event," the statement continued.
Another element of the new agreement between the FA and the Premier League, which will run for a minimum of six years, will see the mid-season break removed from the calendar to allow the Premier League to start in mid-August. It means Premier League players will now have an extended summer break of around three weeks.
It has also been confirmed that the Community Shield will take place on August 10, 2024, one week before the start of the Premier League season.
