Sick patient faces jail for attacking doctor with IV stand in Spain
Woman will soon go on trial.

A woman could face up to two years in prison after she threatened to kill and attacked a doctor with a metal pole in the emergency department of the Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba, Spain, after disagreeing with the diagnosis she was given.
According to the Spanish newspaper ABC, which has had access to the prosecution's charges, the events date back to 27 March 2023. The doctor saw the defendant in consultation, with a security guard present, as the woman had previously had incidents with other health professionals.
According to the public prosecutor, the doctor examined the woman and found that her perception of reality was not altered, she had no suicidal thoughts and did not have any acute pathology that required her to be admitted. It was when she informed the patient that she would not be admitted that the trouble began.
The defendant began by saying that she had been waiting for a long time, that she was being made to feel like a criminal because of the presence of the security guard, and then began to insult and threaten to kill the doctor.
The health professional tried to ignore the insults and threats but, at one point, the woman grabbed a metal IV stand and tried to attack her. The blow hit a computer monitor after the doctor ducked, and the security guard restrained the defendant with the help of an officer who was outside.
The doctor did not suffer any injuries, however, the events constitute a crime of assault on a healthcare worker in the performance of their duties, which carries a sentence of up to two years in prison.
The woman will soon stand trial.
