Pep Guardiola 'forgives' Bernardo Silva for penalty miss: "We did everything"

Pep Guardiola was resigned to Champions League elimination on Monday night at the hands of Real Madrid. The Spanish coach praised his team's performance and excused Bernardo Silva for his missed penalty.

"They defend so deep with incredible togetherness. We did everything. I have no regrets. As coaches, we always try to create more and concede fewer goals, because that helps you win. They scored a good goal. We played exceptional in all departments. Unfortunately, we couldn't win. It is what it is," the Spanish coach began by saying.

"I have to say thank you so much to these players from the bottom of my heart for the way they played. But football is about winning and we were not able to do it, but we were exceptional. Sometimes you win on penalties and sometimes you don't. But in the game we didn't convert the chances we had, despite defending well. Everyone performed at a high level. We said we would have to be at our very best to face Real Madrid and we were," he added, before discussing Bernardo's penalty.

"Bernardo asked to take it, he is a reliable player and he decided to shoot that way. He had a great game, it happens. We did everything and I have no regrets. We played exceptional in all departments and unfortunately we couldn't win. It's football, in this competition that's how it is. In other sports, statistically, we would have won, but the beautiful thing about football is that this can happen," concluded the Manchester City coach.
