Tomás Tavares already has reasons to smile. The right-back, formerly of Benfica, returned to the pitch officially this Saturday, after a ten-month break due to a serious injury - a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee - during an under-21 training session.

The 23-year-old was brought on in the 79th minute by Guillermo Abascal, replacing Leon Klassen, in the match between Sochi and Spartak Moscow, on the 24th round of the Russian championship. The Moscow team ended up losing the match 1-0.

In total, Tomás Tavares went 303 days without playing after the rupture of the cruciate ligament in his knee that occurred last summer and that forced him to miss the European Championship in the category. The young player's last match had been on June 3, 2023.

The full-back, who last season was a sure bet for the Spanish coach with 17 matches played, thus made his debut this season for Spartak Moscow, whose sporting director is the Portuguese Tomás Amaral, who recently joined the club from the Russian capital.

Spartak Moscow currently occupies the seventh position in the championship, with 35 points, three less than the third-placed Dynamo Moscow.
