"It's a huge honour and a great pride to join the FPF board. I thank President Fernando Gomes for the invitation he addressed to me and I hope to live up to the challenge he has set me", said the author of Portugal's winning goal in Euro 2016 against France, quoted by the organisation.

Éder, 36, was co-opted into the executive led by Fernando Gomes, whose departure from Pedro Dias, to the State Secretariat for Sport, led to the promotion of Júlio Vieira, former president of the Leiria association, to full member.

The former striker joins fellow former footballers João Vieira Pinto, Hélder Postiga and Pauleta on the federation's board, promising commitment to the functions of monitoring the national youth teams (men's and women's football) and the FPF's social intervention area.

"It is a joy for me to follow the youth teams and to be able to help develop the players of the next generations. It is also with pleasure that I will contribute in the area of social intervention where I know that the FPF already does a lot", acknowledged the former striker.

Éder, who has not played again since his experience at Al-Raed, in Saudi Arabia, in 2021/22, joins the FPF's board of directors, after a career in which he also wore the jerseys of Tourizense, Académica, Sporting de Braga, Swansea, Lille and Lokomotiv Moscow.

In addition to the decisive goal in the Euro 2016 final, at 109 minutes of the final against hosts France, which gave Portugal its first victory in the European Championship, Éder scored four more goals for the national team, in his 35 appearances.

"I am excited and aware of the responsibility I will have. I will be one more to help, integrated into a great team like the FPF", concluded Éder.
