French Justice Confirms Former Prime Minister Fillon as Guilty
French justice confirmed today the guilty verdict for the country's former prime minister François Fillon, in the case of his wife's fictitious jobs, which contributed to his withdrawal from the 'race' to the Champs Elysées, in 2017.

In 2022, Fillon was sentenced by a Court of Appeal to four years in prison, including one year of actual imprisonment, a fine of 375,000 euros and 10 years of ineligibility.
His wife was sentenced to two years in prison suspended, as well as a fine of 375,000 euros and two years of ineligibility. Former National Assembly deputy Marc Joulad was also sentenced to three years in prison and five years of ineligibility.
The three defendants were also ordered to pay compensation of around 800,000 euros to the National Assembly.
A herald of integrity, the former head of government (2007-2012) was indicted and then removed during his first term, before retiring from political life.
The succession of revelations in the French press prevented his rise to the Champs Élysées, which seemed almost certain after five years of François Hollande's presidency.
The accusations include alleged fictitious jobs for his wife and his two eldest children, an undeclared 50,000 euro loan from a friend and the offer of luxury suits by another.
