When she gave her statement on April 16, after being intercepted at the bank with her dead uncle, Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42, was under the "effect of controlled medication".

The observation, cited by O Globo, is included in the report made at 9:30 pm on Tuesday of last week, the day she accompanied her uncle Paulo Roberto Braga, 68, to the bank to apply for a loan.

At that time, the body of the man who became known as 'Uncle Paulo' had already been taken away by the authorities.

The report also describes that Érika "was in a shaken emotional state [...], with her reflexes destabilized and without normal control of her senses due to the effects of the medication".

The woman's family claims that she is a psychiatric patient, with hospitalizations and drug dependence in her clinical history.

After the scene at the bank, Érika was indicted for fraud and desecration of a corpse. In the process, the defense attached prescriptions and medical reports, which exposed an old diagnosis of depression, made in 2022, in addition to the excessive use of sleeping pills, as well as a request for hospitalization last year.

On the afternoon of April 16, Érika took her uncle to the bank to take out a loan of 17 thousand reais, the equivalent of just over 3 thousand euros, but her uncle was dead.

It should be recalled that, according to the testimony of the TVDE drivers who took them to the scene, Paulo was still alive when he left the vehicle, having held the vehicle door when he left.

The case is shocking Brazil and the international community, after a video showing the woman trying to withdraw the money at the bank went viral on social media. According to the Brazilian press, the bank employees considered the whole situation very strange, since the man could not hold his head, nor move, while Érika tried to convince him to sign a document.
