Yoga can help to "improve overall digestive health, function, and motility," says a doctor and yoga teacher, as quoted in Self. Jill Deutsch goes on to explain that on days when you're constipated and can't seem to get things moving, the practice can help.  To that end, Valerie Lucas, a yoga teacher, recommends the garland pose, as quoted in the same magazine. "It's one of the best poses to do when you need to get things moving—both on and off the mat" because it "opens up" the pelvic area and applies pressure.   • "Step your feet wider than shoulder-width apart," keeping your feet flat on the floor and your toes turned out.
  • "Bend your knees and lower your hips down." Keep your torso upright.
  • "Bring your hands to prayer position in front of your chest with your elbows pointing out to the sides. Use your elbows to press your knees out to the sides."
  • "Step your feet wider apart if you need to in order to keep your heels flat on the floor."
  • "Hold for at least 30 seconds."
