Generally, "bloating can be caused by eating foods that produce more gas than others" or simply that "are high in salt", as well as by "eating too quickly or consuming carbonated beverages", explains Marissa West, a personal trainer and nutrition expert, quoted in Prevention.

It can also be the result of lactose intolerance, "an aversion to dairy, or other health conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome or celiac disease," she adds.

Depending on the cause, certain foods can help fight and relieve bloating, "by reducing inflammation and promoting the release of digestive enzymes". Want some examples? Check out the list.
