Lifestyle Exercício físico

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) – in Portuguese, high intensity interval training. For the 'diet guru Michael Mosley, doctor and author of several books on nutrition and diets, it is one of the most effective exercises for losing weight, increasing longevity and improving overall health.

In his podcast 'Just One Thing', the 66-year-old doctor revealed that he himself does HIIT to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This workout is short, which is ideal for those who are always running against time. In 30 minutes you warm up, train, rest and you're done. As Michael Mosley explains, you don't even need to use expensive equipment. You can simply use your own body weight.

"Not only does it burn more calories in less time, but it can also build your muscles and increase your brain capacity", said the doctor, referring to the fact that "you can also introduce intervals of more vigorous intensity in almost all running and cycling exercises. Even in your morning walk".

Mosley also highlights the importance of adapting training to physical condition. "In the long term, it can bring great benefits, such as increasing muscle strength, improving heart health and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes."

He also adds that HIIT has a significant impact on mitochondrial cells, which "tend to become less effective as we age". "In a recent study, volunteers were instructed to do high-intensity cycling for four four-minute sessions, three times a week. After three months, they not only had more muscle mass and strength, but also increased mitochondrial activity by up to 70%."
