Al-Gharafa missed the chance to move top of the Qatari league on Tuesday as they lost 3-2 at bottom side Al Markhiya.

The game started well for Pedro Martins' side as Traore gave them an early lead in the 23rd minute, set up by former FC Porto man Yacine Brahimi. However, the Qatari strugglers were level on the stroke of half-time as former Boavista man Yusupha Nije equalised in the 45+2nd minute.

Resan then turned the game on its head early in the second half, assisted by another former Boavista player, in the 55th minute, before Brahimi levelled from the spot in the 89th minute, making amends for a penalty he had missed 10 minutes earlier.

However, Yusupha had the final say and made it 3-2 in the 90+7th minute to deny Al-Gharafa the chance to leapfrog leaders Al-Sadd (43 points) and they remain second on 41 points, three ahead of Leonardo Jardim's Al-Rayyan, who have a game in hand. Al Markhiya remain bottom with 14 points, level with Muaither, who have a game to play in this round 20.
