Fixtures confirmed in the First Division. This is what Sporting and Benfica still have to play

Lions are just three wins away from confirming their 20th national league title, and they could even be crowned champions... at the Dragão. The Eagles, however, have a difficult task ahead of them to overtake their rivals.

Desporto I Liga

Now that FC Porto is out of the race for the national championship title, Sporting and Benfica move forward to the last five rounds of the I League vying for first place, although with a large advantage for one of Lisbon's rivals.

Sporting leads the championship with 77 points, seven more than Benfica (70), with only 15 points up for grabs. To celebrate at Marquês de Pombal (also used by its rival to celebrate titles), Rúben Amorim's team needs only three wins to reach its 20th national championship title, if Roger Schmidt's team does not stumble.

Alvalade's team will host Vitória SC, before the Clássico at Dragão, against FC Porto, where they could even celebrate if they win both games and see their Lisbon rival lose in one of the next two rounds (against Farense and Sporting de Braga). If Benfica follows Sporting in a possible 'saga' of wins, there is, therefore, the possibility of Sporting celebrating at home, against Portimonense, in the penultimate round.

Any scenario of a green and white celebration in the penultimate or last round would imply that Sporting would have to slip up in one of the next games, against a Benfica 'without thorns' in a race for the title that would happen until the last breath.

It is also worth remembering that, in the event of a tie in points at the 'curtain call' of the championship, we already know that the first tiebreaker is tied (direct confrontation, with 2-1 in Luz and 2-1 in Alvalade), so the next criterion would be the difference between goals scored and conceded. At the moment, the lions are smiling with a positive margin of 56 against the eagles' 42.

Here is what remains to be played:

Sporting:
Round 30 - Vitória SC (home)
Round 31 - FC Porto (away)
Round 32 - Portimonense (home)
Round 33 - Estoril (away)
Round 34 - Desportivo de Chaves (home)

Benfica:
Round 30 - Farense (away)
Round 31 - Sporting de Braga (home)
Round 32 - Famalicão (away)
Round 33 - Arouca (home)
Round 34 - Rio Ave (away)
