Desporto I Liga

Benfica hosted and defeated Moreirense (3-0) this Sunday, in the 29th round of the I League. The eagles thus returned to victory in the championship, after the defeat in Alvalade, which leaves them further away from the title, on a night when Schmidt promoted an authentic revolution in the eleven, thinking about the European tie that is halfway with Marseille.

Orkun Kokçu (18'), Tomás Araújo (45'+1) and Rollheiser (78') were the scorers on duty at Luz and confirmed Benfica's return to triumphs in the championship, although the distance in points to Sporting could rise from four to seven points next Tuesday, when the lions face Famalicão in a postponed game of the 20th round.

Even so, the incarnate take advantage of the new slip of FC Porto to distance themselves in second place, now with a gap of 11 points.

Movie of the game

Roger Schmidt made eight changes to the eleven, also due to the absences, due to punishment, of Otamendi and Aursnes, and Benfica signed a timid start at Luz. Orkun Kokçu, who lost his starting position after a controversial interview, was one of the bets of the German coach and did not need much time to do 'damage'. At 18 minutes, and after an assist from Tiago Gouveia, the Turkish midfielder made the scoreboard work, although he was not particularly exuberant when it came to celebrating.

Moreirense seems to have woken up with the goal conceded and went after the damage, always riding the intelligence (and talent) of Alanzinho. The Brazilian decided to try his luck after half an hour of play and hit the post, with Samuel Soares (another of Schmidt's novelties) preventing the goal at the moment of the rebound.

Benfica also responded to the law of iron with Arthur Cabral taking paint from Kewin Silva's goal, who still touched the ball before it hit the crossbar with a bang.

On the verge of half-time, the Brazilian goalkeeper of Moreirense was once again present with another tight save in the face of a shot by Álvaro Carreras.

Despite Kewin's effort, Benfica would reach the second goal before returning to the locker room. Following a corner, Tomás Araújo (45'+1), who saw his header saved, shot with his right foot into the back of the goal, extending the eagles' advantage.

Roger Schmidt opted to change the team right after the break, with a triple change. António Silva, Florentino Luís and Rollheiser were bets for the second half and entered the places of Tomás Araújo, who had presented physical complaints, João Neves and David Neres.

The changes brought greater defensive security to the eagles, but they seem to have lost some brilliance when it came to attacking. Even so, it was always Benfica who came closer to extending the advantage than Moreirense to get the distance on the scoreboard.

After some threats, the third goal would end up arriving at 78 minutes. Tiago Gouveia discovered Rollheiser in the heart of the penalty area and the Argentine winger did not forgive with an open way to the goal and made his debut scoring with the eagles' jersey, at the same time that he put an end to the game's history.

Before the final whistle, note the debut of Diogo Spencer, a 19-year-old full-back from the B team, who was launched by Schmidt at 89 minutes.

The result was closed and Benfica collected the 22nd victory after the first 29 rounds of the championship, now totaling 70 points, which guarantees them second place. Moreirense, in turn, records the tenth defeat, but continues in seventh place, with 43 points.

Moment of the game: The second goal, on the verge of half-time, left the victory on track for Benfica.
