The Ivorian defender Ismael Traoré put the visitors ahead after just six minutes, but a strong reaction from Brest saw them go into the break 3-1 up, with goals from Brendan Chardonnet (12 minutes), Kamory Doumbia (31) and Steve Mounie (38).

In the second half, Uruguayan forward Martin Satriano scored the fourth goal for the home team on 60 minutes, with Metz responding through Georgian forward Georges Mikautadze, who scored twice, in the 74th and 80th minutes, but the three points were already safe for the hosts.

Brest remain in second place in Ligue 1, with 53 points, 10 less than leaders PSG, who drew 1-1 with bottom side Clermont on Saturday, and four more than third-placed Lille, who beat Marseille 3-1 on Friday, Benfica's opponents in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
