The unclaimed attack hit the complex in the afternoon, said Ramak Ramadan, head of the Chamchamal district, where the facilities operated by Dana Gas, a company from the United Arab Emirates, are located.
"There are three dead and three wounded," Ramadan said, specifying that according to preliminary information, the people who died were foreigners. A second source reported a death toll of two and six wounded, stating that the dead were foreign workers from the Asian continent. According to a statement from the local Ministry of Energy, the attack caused "an interruption" in the gas supply to power plants, causing electricity production to drop by 2,500 megawatts. Teams are working to restore service, according to the ministry. The gas field is located between the cities of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, in an area managed by the authorities of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. In recent years, Khor Mor has been attacked on several occasions with rocket fire that has never been claimed. In the past, local Kurdish officials have denounced these attacks, attributing responsibility to pro-Iranian armed factions. Regarding today's attack, Ramadan indicated that the target was "a hydrocarbon storage reservoir". In late January, two rockets hit Khor Mor. At the time, pro-Iranian factions carried out dozens of rocket attacks and drone strikes in Iraq and Syria against soldiers from the international anti-jihadist coalition led by Washington.
