A magnitude 6.1 earthquake on the Richter scale hit Taiwan on Friday. The epicenter was in the sea, about 23 kilometers northeast of Hualien and at a depth of 24.9 kilometers.
According to the Central Meteorological Administration, there were at least two shocks, the first being the strongest and a second registering a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale.
Local time, the shocks occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning (due to the time difference, it is 7 hours more). According to Reuters, the earthquake shook some buildings in the capital, Taipei.
No major occurrences have yet been recorded. It is recalled that since Taiwan was hit by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale earlier this month, more than a thousand shocks have been recorded. The earthquake at the beginning of this month killed at least 17 people, and left a trail of destruction, as well as some residents cornered in various locations.
