The 240-metre-high structure, which had already been damaged in a strike in March 2022, at the start of the Russian invasion, collapsed from the middle, an AFP journalist on the scene said.
"The occupants struck a television infrastructure in Kharkiv," said the governor of the region, Oleg Synegoubov, adding that employees had taken cover during the strike. "There were no victims," Synegoubov said, regretting the interruptions to the digital television signal. In recent weeks, the city of Kharkiv, where more than 1.4 million people lived before the war and which is close to the Russian border, has been increasingly targeted by Moscow's forces. Energy production infrastructure, in particular, has been targeted by Russian artillery, causing prolonged power cuts since the end of March. Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited newly dug defensive trenches in the region, even though the front line is located about 40 kilometres from Kharkiv.
