The US House of Representatives approved on Saturday a military aid package to Israel worth 13 billion euros (12.2 billion euros, at current exchange rates).

"We condemn the vote in the US House of Representatives on a bill to provide military and security aid to the criminal entity [Israel]", Hamas said in a statement.

For Hamas, US military aid "violates international law and constitutes a blank check and a green light (...) to continue the brutal aggression" against the Palestinian people.

The US administration "has political, legal and moral responsibility for the war crimes" committed by Israel against the Palestinians "through its military aid", Hamas said, according to the French agency AFP and the Spanish agency Europa Press.

Israeli strikes overnight on the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, killed 22 people, including 18 children, health officials in the Hamas-controlled territory said.

Israel has been carrying out near-daily airstrikes on Rafah, where more than half of Gaza's 2.3 million population has sought refuge from fighting elsewhere.

It has also vowed to expand its ground offensive into the city on the border with Egypt, despite international appeals for restraint, including from the United States.

The war between Israel and Hamas was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian extremist group on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 dead and 250 hostages.

Israel says the militants are still holding about 100 hostages and the remains of more than 30.

Since the attack, Israel has launched an offensive in Gaza that has killed 34,079 people, according to figures updated today by the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health.

The war has also caused significant destruction of infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, a small enclave under Hamas control since 2007.

Hamas, which is supported by Iran, is on the list of terrorist organizations of Israel, the United States and the European Union.
