Israel has been carrying out near-daily airstrikes on Rafah, where more than half of Gaza's 2.3 million population has sought refuge from the fighting elsewhere.

The first strike killed a man, his wife and their three-year-old son, according to the Kuwaiti Hospital, which received the bodies.

The woman was pregnant and doctors managed to save the baby, the hospital said, according to the US news agency AP.

The second strike killed eight children and two women, all from the same family, hospital records showed.

The previous night, an airstrike in Rafah killed nine people, including six children.

The war between Israel and Hamas has killed more than 34,000 people in Gaza, according to local health officials, devastated the territory's two largest cities and left a trail of destruction from north to south.

About 80 percent of the population has fled their homes to other parts of the besieged coastal enclave, whose population experts say is on the brink of starvation.

Israel blames Hamas for the civilian deaths, saying the militants operate in densely populated residential areas, but the military rarely comments on individual strikes, which frequently kill women and children.

The Israeli military says it has killed more than 13,000 Hamas fighters, a claim it has not provided evidence for.

The conflict, now in its seventh month, has stirred regional tensions that pit Israel and the United States against Iran and allied militant groups across the Middle East.

In early April, Israel and Iran exchanged direct fire, raising fears of an all-out war between the long-time enemies.

Tensions have also been rising in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Israeli forces said they shot and killed two Palestinians who attacked a checkpoint with a knife and gun near the southern West Bank city of Hebron earlier on Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear if the two attackers were killed. No Israeli forces were hurt.

At least 469 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The ongoing war was sparked by an unprecedented Hamas attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, that killed about 1,200 people and took 250 hostage.

Israel says the militants are still holding about 100 hostages and the remains of more than 30.
