At Least 58 Dead in Central African Republic Boat Disaster
At least 58 people were killed and others went missing on Friday when an overloaded boat capsized on the Mpoko River in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), the director-general of civil protection announced today.

"We managed to find 58 dead. We don't know the total number of people who are under water," said Thomas Djimasse, quoted by AFP. The rescue teams arrived at the scene 40 minutes after the incident.
An earlier report indicated at least 19 dead.
According to witnesses and videos circulating on social networks, the boat was carrying more than 300 people, well above its capacity, and had just left when it capsized.
