Israeli strike on Rafah home kills nine
An Israeli airstrike on a home in Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, killed at least nine people, six of them children, local hospital officials said today.

The strike late Friday hit a residential building in the western Tel Sultan neighborhood, according to Gaza's civil defense, cited by the U.S.-based AP news agency.
The bodies of six children, two women and a man were taken to Rafah's Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital, according to hospital records.
At the hospital on Saturday morning, relatives wept and embraced the children's bodies, wrapped in white burial shrouds, as others tried to comfort them, AP reported.
"This is a world devoid of all human and moral values," said Ahmed Barhoum, who lost his wife and 5-year-old daughter.
Gaza's health ministry announced Saturday that more than 34,000 people have been killed in nearly seven months of Israel's offensive against the Palestinian territory ruled by the militant Hamas group.
Rafah, which lies on the border with Egypt, is now home to more than half of Gaza's 2.3 million population, most of them displaced by fighting in the north of the territory.
Despite calls for restraint from the international community, including the United States, Israel's staunchest ally, the Israeli government has said for months that it is planning a ground offensive on the city.
Israel alleges that many of Hamas' remaining militants are holed up in Rafah.
So far, such a ground operation has not materialized, but the Israeli military has repeatedly carried out airstrikes in and around the city.
The war was sparked by an unprecedented rocket attack on southern Israel by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and took two hundred hostage.
Israel says about 130 hostages are still being held in Gaza, though more than 30 have been confirmed dead.
Israel's war with Hamas has dramatically escalated tensions in the already volatile Middle East, raising fears of a wider war, particularly with Iran.
