Sky Sports reveals reasons that led Liverpool to drop Rúben Amorim

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Feyenoord to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager, as Jurgen Klopp's reign at the helm nears its end.

The Reds' initial top target for the role was Xabi Alonso, but he rejected the chance to return to Anfield in favour of remaining at Bayer Leverkusen, having guided them to their first ever Bundesliga title.

That saw them switch their attentions to Ruben Amorim.

On Friday, Sky Sports reported that the Sporting boss "ticked a lot of boxes" for the club's hierarchy. However, both his preferred three-at-the-back system and his "long-term vision" led to a difference in opinion between the two parties.

The current Premier League third-placed side are said to have ultimately decided that the former Portugal international's profile "did not fit the current squad or the philosophy" that has been implemented at the club.

The same report adds that Liverpool also took a dim view of Amorim's recent trip to London to hold talks with West Ham, seeing it as an attempt to force their hand in negotiations.
