Club in mourning over the passing of Paulo Abreu, "an exemplary athlete in every way".

The Xico Andebol Sports Club, a symbol that fights in the Division of Honor, issued, at the end of the morning this Friday, a note of regret for the death of Paulo Alexandre Mendes Abreu, captain of the main team, who was 26 years old.

"Paulo Alexandre, better known as Paulo Abreu, was an exemplary athlete in every way. In addition to being a prominent figure on the field, with several titles won in the service of the University of Minho and Xico Andebol, he was also an example of integrity, fair play and dedication to the sport," he says.

"As team captain, Paulo Abreu led us with mastery, being a source of inspiration for his colleagues, leaders and even for the opponents. His passion for handball and for our club was evident in every game he played and in every moment he spent with his teammates," he continues.

"In this moment of pain, we extend our most sincere condolences to Paulo Abreu's family and friends. May they find comfort and serenity in this difficult time. The Xico Andebol Sports Club will pay a worthy tribute to our dear Paulo Abreu, honoring his memory and his legacy within our sports family," he adds.

The club also announced that the athlete's wake will take place from 6 pm (Continental Portugal time) this Friday. The funeral is scheduled for 3:30 pm on Saturday, with the ceremonies beginning at the Santo Amaro Mortuary Chapel, before leaving for the Santo Amaro Mascotelos Church.
