Sporting announced, this Friday, that its former player José Saturnino, who was part of the squad that won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1963/64, died on Thursday at the age of 87.

"To his family and friends, Sporting CP sends its deepest condolences, and cannot fail to praise and thank him for his years of effort and dedication to the club", can be read in the note from the Lions.

Saturnino was a Sporting player for three seasons, between 1962 and 1965, having been part of the squad that won the Cup Winners' Cup and the Cup of Honour in 1963/1964. He played eight matches for the Lions' main team.

Born in Vila Franca de Xira, where he was born on 24 June 1936, José Saturnino represented Vilafranquense, Palmense, Caldas, Atlético CP and AD Sanjoanense, the club with which he won the National Second Division Championship in 1965/1966, later playing for Oriental and Cova da Piedade.
