Olympic medallist and European champion tests positive for steroids

Dimitri Bascou, the bronze medalist in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2016 Rio Olympics and European champion that same year in Amsterdam, has tested positive for steroids, according to France Info and the newspaper Le Parisien.

The French anti-doping agency notified him of the charge on Friday. The 36-year-old runner had been trying to qualify for the Paris Olympics (July 26-Aug. 11) for nearly two years after failing to qualify for the Tokyo Games in 2021.

"In a career spanning more than 15 years, I have never made a misstep. I have always been very vigilant. I have always respected the anti-doping rules. The most likely route is, of course, a food supplement. But I am very careful about the brands I have been working with for years. I have not taken any new products recently," Bascou told France Info.
