Danish cyclist admitted to Txagorritxu Hospital in the Basque Country with multiple injuries

Vingegaard operated on and in intensive care after heavy fall

Jonas Vingegaard is hospitalized, following the heavy fall suffered last Thursday, during the fourth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country, following an accident involving Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel.

According to information released on Monday by the Spanish newspaper As, the Danish cyclist underwent surgery at the Txagorritxu Hospital in Vitoria, after being diagnosed with fractures in his clavicle and ribs, and a pulmonary contusion and pneumothorax.

The 27-year-old athlete is currently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit, accompanied by his wife, Trine Marie Hansen, who traveled to the Basque city a few hours after this episode.

The same publication adds that, at this moment, Jonas Vingegaard's participation in the Tour de France is at stake, a competition which he won in the last two years, and which starts on July 29.
