The police headquarters in the Bouches-du-Rhône district confirmed in Saturday’s edition of the newspaper A Bola that it had decided to prevent Benfica fans from entering the Orange Vélodrome for the match against Marseille.

"We confirm that we made this decision. At this time, this is the only thing we have to say. There will be further clarification next week," the press office explained to the publication, in reference to the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, which will take place on 18 April.

This ‘veto’ is based on the violent incidents involving fans of the incarnate team, including those registered on 8 November 2023, when they travelled to San Sebastián for the match against Real Sociedad.

The Gallic authorities were expecting around 3,500 fans of the Luz club in the country, and are therefore preparing to increase the number of staff, particularly at the airport and on the main access roads to the city.
