Política Paulo Raimundo

The leader of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Paulo Raimundo, said this Tuesday that "there is no reason" why a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) into the privatization of ANA - carried out in 2013 by the PSD/CDS government - should not be approved and recalled that the issue involves "indications of corruption" pointed out by the Court of Auditors.

"The Court of Auditors report demonstrated the urgency and pressing need to move forward with a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry", he told reporters at the Assembly of the Republic, adding that the court "indicates that the State's projection was harmed by 20 billion euros" and "indications of corruption".

"In light of these facts and evidence, we see no reason - nor does it cross my mind - that our proposal will not be approved", he added.

Raimundo said that it is necessary to determine the "political and economic responsibilities", but also "criminal, if applicable".

Recalling that a CPI was opened due to the payment of compensation of 500 thousand euros to the TAP airline, the communist leader stressed that "a value 40 thousand times higher is involved" and, therefore, there should be "unanimity" for a new commission.

The deal, which was concluded in 2013, was made by a PSD/CDS government that had Pedro Passos Coelho as prime minister, Vítor Gaspar and Álvaro Santos Pereira as ministers of Finance and Economy, and Sérgio Monteiro as secretary of State for Infrastructure.
