Bugalho was the PSD president's "only choice" as the list's leader
The PSD secretary-general said today that Sebastião Bugalho was "the only choice" and "the only invitation" made by Luís Montenegro for the AD's top candidate for the European elections and "everything else was fabrication" by the media.

"Who chooses the names is not the media, it is the national leadership, with total reservation", he said.
Hugo Soares admitted that the choice of journalist and television commentator Sebastião Bugalho will have "surprised many people", but assured that this "was the sole choice of the party president and everything else has been fabrication by the media".
"This was the sole choice and the only invitation that the PSD president made for the top of the list", he insisted, in response to new questions from the media about what would have happened with the Mayor of Porto, who was pointed out by several media outlets and by SIC commentator Marques Mendes as number one of the AD for the European elections.
The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, declined the invitation to be part of the second place of the Democratic Alliance (AD) list for the next European elections of June 9, a source close to the mayor told Lusa.
To Lusa, the same source specified that the PSD leader, Luís Montenegro, formally invited Rui Moreira for the second position of the AD list for the European elections on Sunday night, but he declined.
On Sunday, in the commentary space of CNN Portugal, Rui Moreira admitted interest, as well as concern with the European project.
"The issue of Europe is something that interests me and that mainly concerns me. We all have to be concerned with Europe and with the European project. The European project was the great project of the 20th century for Europeans after two devastating wars. Right now, we need to fight for the Europe we want, a Europe that is threatened by wars, and for that reason, I also confess, openly, that it is a project that, in some way, appeals to me", he said.
Today, PSD Porto members and mayors, among which Vladimiro Feliz, who was the social-democrat candidate for the Porto City Council, demonstrated today against the national leadership's intention of indicating Rui Moreira as top of the list for the European elections.
The signatories considered it to be "a betrayal of the people of Porto, of the members, supporters and mayors elected by the PSD", stating that they have no doubt that "it will leave deep marks in the trust that the people of Porto have in the PSD".
