"The Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow today fined Dmitry Kuznetsov 10,000 rubles," the press service of the Moscow City Courts reported on Telegram.

According to the court, Kuznetsov was charged with participating in the activities of an undesirable foreign non-governmental organization in Russia, "Meduza".

Russian authorities declared "Meduza" "undesirable" in January 2023, deeming its activities a threat to the constitutional order due to its stance on the war in Ukraine.

The media outlet, an international Russian-language publication registered in Riga, was blocked in Russia after it was designated a "foreign agent" on 23 April 2021.

Following "Meduza", other independent media outlets, including "Dozhd TV" and "Mediazona", as well as dozens of journalists and public figures, were added to the same list of "foreign agents".

The law on "undesirable" organisations was adopted in 2015 and gives the Prosecutor General's Office the right to assign this status to any foreign or international non-governmental organisation if it decides that its activities threaten "the foundations of the constitutional order, defence capability or security of Russia".

For participating in the activities of such organisations or even cooperating with them in some way, an individual may face administrative or criminal liability.
