The 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution did not go unnoticed abroad, with several foreign publications highlighting it on Friday.

British newspaper The Guardian compiled some of the most iconic photographs from yesterday, highlighting the moment when many sang 'Grândola, Vila Morena' in the streets.

El País writes that the Portuguese "took to the streets to demand the freedom they conquered 50 years ago".

"The same song that made 5,000 soldiers leave their barracks to overthrow the dictatorship half a century ago served to open and close the day when Portugal commemorated a revolution that surprised the world", the Spanish publication reads.

French TV channel TV5, in turn, focuses on the "human tide" that took to the streets to celebrate this date in the country.

'Portugal's Democracy Turns 50', writes Reuters, pointing out that at a time when "far-right support has been rising in Portugal in recent years, a large crowd marched through the capital, carrying carnations, waving national flags and chanting: 'April 25 - forever. Fascism - never again!'"

The Associated Press also did not remain indifferent to the event, stating that "military vehicles and red carnations were back in the streets and squares of downtown Lisbon on Thursday as Portugal re-enacted dramatic moments from the army coup that brought democracy to the country 50 years ago".

It should be recalled that the celebration of 50 years of democracy brought hundreds of thousands of people to the streets, who filled Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, to celebrate April 25 in the traditional commemorative parade.
