"Iran's nuclear doctrine is very clear and we believe that the peaceful use of nuclear energy is an inalienable right. Basically, nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's military and defense doctrine. This issue has been mentioned on many occasions," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kanani said on Monday.

Kanani's remarks come four days after Ahmad Haghtalab, the Revolutionary Guard commander responsible for nuclear security, said that "if the fake Zionist regime (Israel) threatens to attack [Iran's] nuclear facilities as a means of pressure, it is possible and conceivable to review the country's nuclear doctrine and policies."

The Iranian diplomat also said on Monday that Tehran "has taken all political, legal and international measures to ensure that the aggressor is punished," after Israel bombed the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus, killing seven Revolutionary Guard members and six Syrian civilians.

Iran responded to the attack by firing more than 300 missiles and drones at Israeli territory, 99% of which were intercepted, according to Israel.

Last week, a drone attack attributed to Israel on the Iranian city of Isfahan (center) caused no casualties or damage, according to Tehran.

Kanani reiterated that Iran carried out the strikes against Israel "in the framework of efforts to maintain peace and security in the region and not to fuel war and crisis."

"No economic, residential or civilian targets were hit," Kanani was quoted as saying by the Iranian news agency Mehr.

"The operation is over and Iran seeks to establish stability and peace in the region," he said, stressing that "if there is another aggressive action from any side or if anyone supports the [Israeli] regime, there may be a firm and decisive response."

Regarding the attack on Isfahan, Kanani said on Monday that the targets "had no military value."

"The Zionist regime has not claimed" the attack, he said, stressing that "Iran has clearly shown that it uses all its capabilities to protect its national security."
