"The Armed Forces will naturally analyze the situation and, in any case, take all necessary retaliatory measures to ensure our security," said the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.

The Russian head of state's spokesman was referring directly to the statements by Polish President Andrzej Duda, who declared that Poland is a country "ready to accept nuclear weapons" from allied countries.

In an interview published by the Polish newspaper "Fakt", Duda stated that "Russia is increasingly militarizing Kaliningrad", the former Russian enclave that borders Poland and Lithuania, and that Moscow "has also transferred nuclear weapons to Belarus".

"If our allies decide to install nuclear missiles on our territory, we are prepared," he said.

"We are part of the North Atlantic Alliance and, therefore, we have obligations in this matter, which means that we are simply applying a policy of common interests," he added.
