A baby girl who was pronounced dead at birth "came back to life" at her own funeral in Paraguay. However, she died a week later in the intensive care unit where she was being treated.

The girl, who was named Milagro de Jesús (which means Miracle of Jesus), was born prematurely on April 12 at the Ciudad del Este Regional Hospital. She weighed just 400 grams and was declared dead when she was born by cesarean section at 12 p.m. that day, according to the newspaper La Nación.

The body was handed over to the family so that they could organize the wake and burial. The next day, when they opened the coffin, they realized that the girl was still breathing. However, she was pronounced dead again last Friday, April 19, a week after she was born.

The child was immediately taken to the Regional Hospital, where it was confirmed that she was still alive. She was later transferred to the Le Blanc Hospital to be admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit.

According to the director of the Regional Hospital, Federico Schrodel, the case may have been one of catalepsy, but an investigation is still underway to determine how the child was pronounced dead.

The child's mother, a 21-year-old woman, is still in intensive care.
