Dentist Shaadi Manouchehri took to her TikTok account to reveal the three times you should avoid brushing your teeth. In the clip, she says you should wait after throwing up, eating breakfast and even after eating sugary foods.

NBC’s Today spoke to experts to see if there was any truth to her claims.

Vomiting

It all comes down to stomach acid. “You never want to brush your teeth when your mouth is very acidic, because you don’t want to brush that acid around on your teeth,” dentist Beth Caunitz tells Today. “Vomiting exposes your teeth to stomach acid, which can soften and dissolve the enamel on your teeth,” adds Diana Nguyen.

Breakfast

“You can drink water and swish with water or mouthwash to help remove food particles from your teeth and gums.”

Sugary foods

You should wait at least an hour to allow your mouth to neutralize most of the acids. The same goes for fizzy drinks. Again, drinking water is a good way to help.
