A rare genetic mutation that causes short stature may also be linked to a longer lifespan, according to a study published in the journal Med, from Cell Press.
The study found that people with Laron syndrome have characteristics that protect against heart disease, which may explain why they have a longer life expectancy than the general population.

The new study compared 24 people with the syndrome from Ecuador and the United States to 27 family members without the mutation. Those with the rare mutation appeared to have healthier hearts, with lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Cholesterol levels also tended to be lower in those with the condition. Other studies have shown that these individuals are less likely to develop cancer and have a reduced risk of cognitive decline.
