Mistakes You're (Probably) Making When Washing Your Workout Clothes

To keep your workout clothes in tip-top condition, it takes a little bit of TLC. You can’t just chuck it in the laundry basket and forget about it for days or even weeks on end. Martyn Oakey, fitness director at Everlast Gyms, told HuffPost, the blogging aggregator, everything you should (and shouldn’t) be doing.

Mistakes you're (probably) making when washing your workout gear:
- Washing your clothes on a hot setting. Workout clothes are usually made from synthetic materials that don’t react well to high temperatures because it can damage the fibers. Opt for a cooler temperature instead;
- Using fabric softener. “Moisture-wicking materials don’t absorb fabric softener the same way your regular clothes do, which creates a coating on the surface that can trap bacteria”;
- Putting your clothes in the dryer. “Similar to washing your clothes, exposing them to high temperatures in the dryer will only further break down the fibers and ruin the quality of your items.” Air-drying is your best bet.
