In contrast to countries such as Portugal, Spain or England, Sweden continues to resist VAR, and has no plans to introduce the technology in the more distant future. The guarantee is given by the president of the Swedish Football Federation (SvFF) himself.

In an interview given to the Friday edition of the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Fredrik Reinfeldt revealed that the clubs and the fans themselves 'put their foot down' on this system, so this will not be a reality, although in the past year of 2023, he himself defended that this would be "the future".

"If I counted correctly, we have 18 elite clubs and two districts that said they do not want to introduce VAR. We respect that. That is why we did not put forward any proposal on VAR to the previous panel of representatives, and I do not see it happening in the future", he said.

"I defend respect for the democratic rules of the game. At the time, there was a discussion about the possibility of developing UEFA's requirements for VAR. Now, it doesn't seem like it, from what I've heard. It's up to us to make the decisions", he added.
