Premier League rocked as two players arrested over alleged rape

The British newspaper The Sun reported on Tuesday that two players who play in the Premier League were arrested last weekend on suspicion of rape.

The identities of the suspects have not been revealed, but the same source said that the two footballers, both 19 years old and from the same club, were later released after paying bail. The victim is said to have filed a complaint after the alleged rape, which occurred on 19 April.

One of the players was questioned at the club's stadium on suspicion of assault and complicity in the rape, and was formally arrested after leaving the scene. He was held overnight and later questioned again. Meanwhile, the other footballer was arrested the following day and gave a statement as a suspect in the rape.

A spokesperson for the club of the players involved, who was also not identified, told The Sun that the institution will not comment on the case at this time, as the case is in the hands of the police.
