Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas today won, for the third time in four years, the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, beating Norwegian Casper Ruud in two sets.

The world No. 12 defeated Ruud, No. 10, by 6-1 and 6-4, in one hour and 37 minutes, tying the head-to-head between them, with two wins for each.

Tsitsipas had not reached any finals this season, nor had he won a title since Los Cabos, in 2023, securing with this triumph the 11th trophy of his career and the return to the world top 10.

"It has been very difficult, so being back on the podiums and winning tournaments is a fantastic feeling. [...] The third time is even more special than the first or the second. It is an incredible victory for me", he said.

The Greek became the fifth tennis player to win at least three times the first Masters 1000 on clay of the season, joining Rafael Nadal (11), Bjorn Borg (3), Thomas Muster (3) and Ilie Nastase (3).

On his way to the final, Tsitsipas defeated three top 10 players: German Alexander Zverev (fifth), Italian Jannik Sinner (second) and Casper Ruud.

After defeating Serbian Novak Djokovic, world number one, in the semi-finals, Ruud remains without winning any title since he won the Estoril Open in 2023, losing for the 11th time in 21 finals.
