Real Madrid and Manchester City starred, this Wednesday, in one of the matches of the year, counting for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, which ended in a three-ball draw. However, not everything was a 'bed of roses'.

After the final whistle, Pep Guardiola and Rodri pointed the finger at the Santiago Bernabéu pitch, claiming that, although it had been recently relaid, it did not meet the necessary conditions to host a match of this magnitude, which ended up harming the citizens.

"The stadium will be impressive. It's a great stadium, but now they just have to take care of the pitch. They just have to improve this. Florentino [Pérez, president of the meringues] just has to worry about guaranteeing a good pitch," said the coach.

"It's true, the pitch was not good, especially for the way we play. We are not making excuses, but it was not good. From above, you don't see the perspective," added the midfielder, in statements reproduced by the Spanish newspaper Sport.

"It happened to me, sometimes, to think that the pitch was good, but after seeing it up close... The pitch was lifting and spitting out the ball. The Bernabéu has always had a 'carpet' in the best conditions, so we had no complaints about that," he added.
