Roy Keane did not spare his criticism of Erik ten Hag on Sunday, after the latter publicly admitted that he liked what he saw from Manchester United in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

"He's obviously had a couple of glasses of wine after the game. I don't know how strong they were, but he seems a really upbeat character, and I admire that, because he's obviously seeing something that I'm not," he began by saying, in statements made to British television station Sky Sports.

"I'm not saying there's not potential there, but in terms of challenging Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool, they're a long way off. At the moment, they're challenging for fourth and fifth place with Aston Villa and Tottenham, and they're a long way behind," he continued.

"I don't see the optimism, but maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy. He's upbeat, but I certainly didn't see that performance as upbeat. It was two very good goals from Manchester United and a team that hung on," concluded the former Red Devils captain.
