Política CDS-PP

Filipe Lobo D'Ávila, former Secretary of State for Internal Administration and ex-deputy, has disaffiliated from CDS-PP. In a letter addressed to the party's president, Nuno Melo, and the secretary-general, Pedro Morais Soares, the former government official assumes that "the way he understands politics" is not "compatible with party membership in CDS"

"Over the last 30 years of party membership, I have had the enormous pride of being a member of CDS, having had the opportunity to represent CDS in party, parliamentary and government positions. In the Ministry of Justice as Director-General between 2002 and 2008, in the Ministry of Internal Administration as Secretary of State for Internal Administration between 2011 and 2014, in Parliament as a Deputy in different legislatures and in the Party as Spokesperson and Vice-President, of different Presidents elected by the members", Lobo D'Ávila begins by writing in the letter to which Notícias ao Minuto had access.

In the disaffiliation letter, the former deputy also emphasizes that "in the last three years", he has tried "to remain silent about party life", having gone through "a long internal process of reflection and enormous personal and family consideration, particularly in the last two years".

It is a well-considered decision made consciously

Lobo D'Ávila concluded "that the way I understand politics, as a public service, in freedom, with thought, with critical spirit, with independence, without financial or other subservience, with a spirit of mission, but also with a sense of belonging and political affinity to a certain Party, is not compatible today with my party membership in CDS".

The now ex-member does not dwell on the reasons for his departure - initially reported by Diário de Notícias and confirmed by Notícias ao Minuto - emphasizing, however, that the disaffiliation has "immediate effects"

"It was an honour to have assumed responsibilities on behalf of a CDS of which I will keep excellent memories and which, in all honesty, was also responsible for part of what I am today. It is thus a well-considered decision made consciously", he adds.

And he ends: "The past does not make the present and much less the future. And we can do politics anywhere, in our life, in our environment, in our society. In freedom and without dependencies".
