A 14-year-old Canadian kitesurfer who was in distress in the water was rescued on Thursday afternoon, at Rodanho beach, in the municipality of Viana do Castelo.
The rescue occurred after "an alert was received at 3:30 p.m.", by "a lifeguard", and "a jet ski from the Viana do Castelo Lifeboat Station" was called to the scene, according to a statement by the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
"Upon arriving at the scene, it was found that the kitesurfer's equipment was damaged, and he was unable to return to shore, so the crew of the Lifeboat Station carried out the rescue and transported him to the beach", the statement added.
The minor was "physically well", so it was not necessary to "provide medical assistance to the victim", who ended up leaving the beach "on his own".
