After Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III will resume public duties, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has welcomed the news.

"Great news to end the week", the British leader wrote in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), welcoming the information released by Buckingham Palace on Friday, April 26.

The UK's Foreign Secretary James Cleverly also called it "brilliant news".

It was announced this afternoon that King Charles III will resume public duties after months away from royal engagements due to cancer treatment.

"His Majesty The King will shortly resume public duties following a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent diagnosis of cancer. To mark this milestone, The King and The Queen will visit a cancer treatment centre together next Tuesday, where they will meet specialist doctors and patients," the statement read.

This will be the first of a number of engagements that Charles will undertake "in the coming weeks".

In June, the Emperor and Empress of Japan will be making an official state visit to the UK.
